In New Jersey on July 1 the Shamrock IV and the defender Resolute sail in light airs for the Americas Cup. Shamrock led early, Resolute edged ahead briefly, and the two crossed tacks repeatedly. By 1:58 Resolute held a small lead of about 100 yards as wind rose to six knots, with Shamrock closing in. The race ended with Shamrock winning by around nineteen seconds, threatening to reclaim the Cup for Britain.

State Police Raid At Westport Inn Arrests Temporary Proprietress
Two state policemen visited Westport yesterday afternoon seeking liquor law violators. After securing a drink at the Hawthorne Inn they arrested Mrs. Fischer the temporary proprietress.
