Irish claim they sent British sailors to doom in submarine K-5. Sinn Fein boasts of sinking a warship using an electrically guided projectile. K-5 lost January 20 off Land’s End in the English Channel, with 57 lives.
Dayton officers thwart an alleged plan to steal two registered mail pouches from a mail wagon in Troy. Leo Bauman, 35, held on 25000 bond on a mail pouch theft charge after lawmen and deputies nabbed him near a post office. A bullet grazed the car as Bauman fled, but he escaped injury. Separate note from New York reports Mrs. Warren G Harding’s upcoming wardrobe purchases.
Norfolk youth Val Edward Kane, 17, tumbled five stories through a chimney last night while fleeing from Contention House. He landed in a liquor room storing seized booze, caused a commotion, and was recaptured. Kane learned later that the room held the confiscated liquor.
Coroner Mix reports John Ka ce ryaukas confessed he had no accomplices in the plan to kill Mrs. Cherniak of Milford. He said two men hired him to steal mortgage interest money and drove him from Bridgeport to Milford in a car before the alleged crime.
Two thousand tons of soft coal arrived in Bridgeport harbor by three barges from Perth Amboy. Two barges were sent to local dealers and one to the United Illuminating Company.
Creditors list filed in Superior Court shows Shelton City, Fairfield County, churches, businesses, and funds as heavy losers in the Helton Bank and Trust Company collapse. In Haverhill near the Servetnick Shoe Company's factory a strike escalated into a clash with police. Seven arrests were made as women surged the crowd and officers. a woman was seized near an automobile carrying striking workers. Police charged the group with disturbing the peace.
At a New England and North Atlantic states meeting with the Merchants Association of New York City next Wednesday, the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will go on record in favor of daylight saving. William E. Burnham Edmund S. Mayo and Charles F. Schmertz will represent the Chamber.
The Public Service Commission directed the United Traction Company to resume street car service in Albany, Troy and nearby areas by next Tuesday morning. Strikes began last Saturday as employees walked out over a proposed wage rise.

Senator McCumber and North Dakota Representative pushed two amendments to the Emergency Tariff Bill. One imposes a 40 cent per bushel duty on wheat and the other a two cent per pound duty on rice with an exception for rice used in canning.
Ninety cases of Scotch whiskey worth about 18000 dollars were seized at the Boynton freight yards Somerville by Prohibition Enforcement Agent McCarthy and four assistants. The liquor arrived on a Canadian train loaded with flour and two men driving away in a car were captured. The arrestees identified themselves as Maurice Levine and William Stanton, both of Boston.
Chairman Butler of the House Naval Committee said a U S call for an international disarmament conference would be issued soon after President elect Harding's inauguration. Butler pressed witnesses and noted his recent Marion Ohio meeting with Harding. Rear Admiral Sims testified against tying naval cuts to any disarmament pact.
