In the early opening hours seven youths held 20 workers at Kenwood Trust and Savings Bank at gunpoint and looted cash. They fled in a car, with authorities scarce on leads. Bank vice president Eugene E Ford estimated the loss above $30,000 as a full check awaits final tally.
Assistant City Attorney says Elmer V Fitzgerald was never a lieutenant in the fire department and seeks mandamus to restore him. The fire board’s rule allows six month probation for appointments and possible reduction without hearing. Records show Fitzgerald was appointed July 8 1920, with date from July 15, and his continued status is disputed.
Stanley, president of the police board, may not be in town yet the commissioners plan to proceed with the scheduled meeting if a quorum is present. Incorporation papers filed today for the Consolidated Retail Coal company of Bridgeport. Authorized capital stock is 50,000 dollars, par value 160 dollars a share, with 20,000 dollars to begin. Incorporators: John T. L. Hubbard and Clarence Hall of Fairfield and Rey E. Clark of Bridgeport. Weather outlook generally fair and slightly warmer tonight and Wednesday.
Two civilians died and several were wounded in two shootings at Mallow today. Captain King and his wife were shot at the Mallow railway station. Mrs King died and Captain King was hospitalized in critical condition. A crowd near the station fired on by soldiers caused more casualties. Reports later increased wounded to eight. In Dublin a detachment of soldiers was bombed in Merrion Square and a civilian was killed during a clash as railway workers were rounded up after the shooting of King and his wife.
