Fire and seaside races mark Stratford day
Stratford Aug 3 Excellent save by Chief Allen D Judson and Assistant Chief Frederick L Palmer kept a home on Avon Street from a kerosene stove explosion fire. Mrs Stanik lit the stove, then left, and flames spread. Firemen arrived to find a large hole burned in the house. Loss estimated at 700 dollars. Also noted were boat races won by the Idea skippered by Charles A Wheeler for Milford Yacht Club, and town improvements including moving buildings for a new moving picture theatre and street work. Several community meetings and local notices followed including haymaking instruction for tramps and updates on residents’ health and travels.
