James M. Dawe a 42 year old United Illuminating Co. worker from 953 East Main Street was struck on the head by a falling 30 pound sheave wheel from about 20 feet. He survived with a deep scalp laceration likely needing 18 stitches and possible skull fracture. He is hospitalized at Bridgeport Hospital after the accident.

Jail Break Attempt Ends With Fines for Three Women
Stella Robinson Estelle Smith and Lillian Scott of 198 Knowlton Street attempted to escape the county jail on North Avenue using a knotted quilt rope. Robinson fled to ground and was later captured in South Norwalk. Smith sprained her ankle after the rope failed and Scott remained on the roof until the rope gave way.
