Louis Bogash a Bridgeport lightweight contender and chauffeur by trade will marry Rose Petrino of 103 Garfield Avenue. A marriage license was issued yesterday by the Bureau of Vital Statistics confirming the betrothal.
Compiegne France April 10 shipments of German cattle under the Versailles treaty arrived at Chevy-en-Valois and will be distributed to farmers. A second shipment expected tomorrow at Lonqueil will go to inhabitants of the Canton of Fabecourt. Cattle not identifiable as taken from occupied French territory may count toward Germany's reparations. A five year old, Marie Santiano, was run over in Bronx avenue and suffered a fractured thigh. she was taken to St Vincent's hospital.
The will of Nathaniel W. Bishop who died April 4 and filed in Probate Court leaves an estate valued at about half a million to his wife Annie Warner Bishop of 301 Park Place. Executors are Mrs Bishop and Bankers Trust Co of New York. Appraisers listed include Charles G. Sanford, Elmer Havens, and Louis B. Powe. The estate contains city real estate including the Hadley Building, a Lake Waramaug summer home, and interests in Iron Ledge Quarry Co and Connecticut Quarry Co with stocks and bonds in Bridgeport Hydraulic and Bridgeport Gas Light Co. Warner, Alfred, and Nathaniel are heirs at law. In labor news, nationwide railroad strike counts show Chicago 8560 on strike, St. Louis 5090, New York-New Jersey 3600, and other cities listed.
Hartford April 10 Colonel Isaac M Ullman of New Haven releases a letter from Governor Holcomb dated March 31 replying to arguments for a special legislative session to act on the suffrage amendment The governor says no justification exists for a special session and contends a constitutional provision prevents hasty action The piece notes Ullman led Republican ratification and resolutions from the state convention and that continuation appears on page six.
Edward T Buckingham Jr son of a Compensa tion Commissioner underwent a successful operation at Fridgeport hospital this morning by Dr George W Hewley. The arm was broken in an accident a week ago and doctors said realignment without surgery was impossible. His mother accompanied him and he is expected to leave hospital in about a week if progress continues.
Rudolph Paul of 1791 Main Street Stratford says a policeman mistreated him while aiding jitney driver Joseph Petrosk after a collision with a trolley on Middle Street and Fairfield Avenue. Coroner Phelan refuses to investigate, noting the matter is not relevant to the case and directing Paul to the Police Commissioners.
A wildfire outbreak hit Bridgeport with three small blazes along Main Street near Park Place Pacific Street near North Avenue and Stratford Avenue. Firefighters responded quickly but no damage was reported from any of the incidents.
Bladimir Osadach testified at a coroner’s inquest into the death of Michael DeNos, who fell from a jitney on West Avenue near East State Street. DeNos died April 7 from a fractured skull. Osadach said he did not see the accident and did not hear the bell.
City officials discussed aligning Bridgeport to continue Daylight Saving until the last Sunday in October if New York and Massachusetts maintain the schedule and neighboring states follow, with an amendment possible to extend locally.
About 690 Gilbert Clock Company workers in Winsted Connecticut were refused a one hour day with ten hours pay. General Manager C Williams announced the decision to all employees as the plant closed for the afternoon. The request was from a twenty member committee. He warned the plan would raise costs and reduce production while boosting overhead and prices without raising wages.
New York on April 10 ordered an express embargo as the railroad strike expanded, threatening to block freight and cripple passenger service on many lines. An express package exploded at Providence Union Station injuring three baggage handlers. The blast wrecked the platform and express car, blew windows from the New York New Haven Hartford Railroad office, and was blamed on a rain‑hit truck. Police found no serious injuries and could not determine the package contents.
