Fire destroys Spinning Wheel Inn at Redding

Redding September 27 a spectacular fire destroyed the Spinning Wheel Inn on the Black Rock turnpike a key Fairfield county site with damage estimated over 75000 fire companies from Redding Bethel Easton Georgetown and Danbury aided by local crews water was scarce as the Inn was unoccupied at closing time and the blaze spread from a porch toward the kitchen and dining rooms.

Four face court today for kidnapping cop

Sept 27 Newtown seeks to delay a 53.3 million high school project in Southbury by filing for an injunction in Waterbury Superior Court. The petition, filed by J Gregory Lynch for taxpayers of Newtown Woodbury and Bethlehem, alleges the regional district lacks bonding authority and missing town approvals. Suspect Held in Mail Thefts at Bridgeport Post

Raymond A. Pavia, 41, of 1683 Main Street, was taken into custody by postal inspectors and police after buying jewelry and other goods reported missing from mail deliveries at Bridgeport post offices. Inspector Edward F. Flynn said several postal workers may be involved and additional arrests are expected today. Pavia is held at police headquarters.

Infant jailed under old statute in Boston

Boston September 27 AP three month old infant jailed with mother under an 1858 Massachusetts statute after Winifred Rolf refused to testify in a paternity suit. Superior Judge Raoul Beaudreau ordered the baby kept at Charles Street jail with its mother until the mother could provide care.
