SAYBROOK AP report describes William Reynolds 42 Old Lyme boat yard owner who drowned in Long Island Sound after attempting to overtake a drifting boat. He leaped in from another boat, swam about 75 yards to shore, and drowned. Police say he was working on a boat when the drift occurred.
Official weather note reports mostly sunny pleasant conditions in Bridgeport with highs near 70 and cool nights around 50, 40 suburbs. New York City data mirrors this pattern with seasonal temperatures, plus tide, barometer, humidity readings and autumn almanac for Friday September 24.

The Riverview Rest Home operator Clement J. Lees, 57, was found dead from a shotgun wound in Roosevelt forest Stratford about 10 pm. His wife Helen, 49, has been missing since April 22. A medical examiner said the death was self-inflicted and dated 14 to 18 hours prior. The Welfare department ordered the home closed by Oct. 1, housing 14 elderly residents. Milford prepared for a referendum on changing from a council-manager government to a mayor council system. Opponents include both major parties and civic groups, with observers predicting a four to one defeat.
Stratford officials warn a delay in a spur railroad to Great Meadows could derail industrial growth and burden taxpayers. Councilman George F. Wright, chair of Planning and Development, notes an appeal to the Public Utilities Commission approved project and says the case will go to Superior Court with counsel Alfred Belinkie representing Anthony and Donald Coppola who own property along Stratford Avenue. Seven Polish seamen told British police they staged a freedom mutiny on the trawler Puszczyk. They beat a political officer and locked the captain and others in cabins before sailing to York shire port seeking asylum. Police found Capt Kobryn Wiktor locked in the lavatory and seven crew locked in cabins before all were released.
Washington reports that Senate leaders postponed a ruling on recalling the Senate to consider a proposed censure of Senator McCarthy. The delay raises the chance that no action will occur before the November 2 election as Senate Secretary Mark Trice said he had spoken with Republican leader Sen. Knowland prior to noon.
A television serviceman, John Harrison of Harrison's Radio and Television, slipped while on the roof of a three story house at 904 Howard Avenue and suffered an ankle injury. Firemen used two 40 foot extension ladders to lower him to the ground and he was taken to a private physician. Lieut. Albert Kelman supervised the operation with firefighters John Schauwecker, Robert Gleason, James Farrel, and James McNiff assisting.
