Firefighters urge 70 hour week plan in Bridgeport
A Bridgeport fire department committee presented a 70 hour weekly schedule to the Board of Fire Commissioners as a cost saving measure. The plan has firefighters work five ten hour days, five fourteen hour nights, then eight off, averaging 70 hours per week, plus a call for a fifth inspector chief to ease administration. The board will study the proposal and respond later. current strength is 266 with funds reportedly allocated for 29 more by October.
