Mover Held in Theft of Rockefellers 30000 Ring
Otis Dale Miller of the Bronx was arrested on a charge of stealing the $30,000 engagement ring from Winthrop Rockefeller and his ex wife Bobo. The ring was recovered by detectives from a carton under the kitchen sink after movers were packing belongings from a Park Avenue pent house to a hotel. The Rockefellers divorced last month after a five year marriage.

Train slams truck killing one and injuring 28 in Mattoon
A New York Central streamliner derailed after hitting a gravel truck at Monroe Crossing near Mattoon Illinois. Fifteen Chaplains Bail Out as Plane Crashes Near Prison Farm
In California near Newhall on September 20, a C46 transport carrying fifteen Civil Air Patrol chaplains and three crewmen crashed after takeoff from Lockheed. All aboard parachuted to safety as the craft burned near the Los Angeles City Prison Farm. Minor injuries reported among inmates and crew. Captain Thomas E Willson, pilot, escaped shock but uninjured. Firefighters and prisoners aided in containment of brush fires caused by the crash.

Woman Rescued After Ordeal At Lake Erie With Husband’s Body
TOLEDO Ohio AP September 20 A Toledo woman Mrs Iva B Soncrant was rescued after two nights adrift in a small boat with her husband Joseph P Soncrant 57 who died of a stroke as they were out on Lake Erie. She rode out storms with no food or water and was found by a fisherman four and a half miles off shore. She told deputies the couple went out Saturday afternoon. He died about six. She managed to cling to the boat and cried for help until rescue arrived. Deputies handed her to relatives.
