30 Neglected Cats Picked Up At Stratford Home

Connecticut Humane Society workers collected 27 live cats and three dead ones from the Stratford residence of Mr and Mrs Samuel Jourba 50 Mercer Road after Mrs Jourba was removed to Fairfield State Hospital. District agent William Kennedy said two helpers assisted in the roundup and traps were set for six more animals amid clutter and debris in the home and cellar. Health officials reported Mr Jourba slept in a bathtub with an electric blanket to stay warm as he could not reach bedrooms.

Cyclist Injured in Pike Crash Near Norwalk Line

Darien reports a 20 year old motorcyclist injured when his cycle hit a large dump truck while joyriding on the unopened Connecticut turnpike near the Norwalk city line. Police say the rider, David Gehrhardt of 51 Strawberry Hill Avenue, will face trespass charges on the turnpike. The road has previously seen four fatalities before opening to traffic.
