Public hearing on charter changes set for Friday
The Common Council will hold a full scale public hearing at 7 p.m. Friday in the Burroughs public library auditorium on two charter amendments. One merger of taxing districts and one reducing city firemen work week from 56 to 42 hours. A final council vote will decide placing the measures on the November 5 election ballot.

Black Rock Power Outage Hits 1,700 Homes
About 1,700 homes in Black Rock and nearby Fairfield lost power for a little over an hour yesterday as electric ranges were about to be used for dinner. The outage began at 5:22 p.m. and ended at 6:30 p.m. A United Illuminating spokesman said the fault lay in an underground cable from the Steel Point central station to the School Street substation, with restoration after a re switching and crews dispatched to locate and repair the break.
