Allied forces push three miles toward Metz with the First Army opening fire while Pershing claims ninety nine square miles more, expanding on already seized territory. Austrian negotiators push for a neutral peace drive and discuss non binding talks at a neutral meeting place with a Vatican note proposing terms.
Washington reports Germany's latest peace feeler moves through Austria. The press recalls President Wilson's April Baltimore address urging "force to the utmost" to establish right as world law. Allies reportedly align with that stance as CACe talks remain unconfirmed.
Amsterdam reports an Austro Hungarian note inviting all belligerents to non binding talks in a neutral country. The aim is an exchange of views on basic peace principles and to clarify terms for possible negotiations, with a confidential, unbinding discussion among delegates from each side. Captain Vladimir Herban and Major George Haven Putnim are to speak at a mass meeting this evening at the Stratfield armory to support the Czecho Slovaks war fund. A complimentary dinner is to be tendered, with workers assisting in the $30,000 quota allotments for the city fund. Captain Hurt, direct from the Siberian front, will speak after the dinner before the meeting.
Italian forces attacked and captured enemy trenches near Grovella bay, taking 343 prisoners. The operation yielded machine guns, rifles, and other war material. Air support aided the assault as infantry moved to secure the position.

It suggests Germany could retain commercial arrangements and would not demand reparations or admission of fault. The plan also mentions protection of colonial interests and leniency toward the Belgian minority allied with invaders.
Twelve thousand Bridgeporters cheered Justice George W Wheeler as he apologized to President Wilson for the machinists strike. The crowd, stirred by an address from former Senator Therath Gurton of Cincinnati, heard strong condemnation of the strike and calls for unity. Wheeler attacked leaders of the machinists and urged support for the wartime effort, stressing the nation’s needs and denouncing extremism.
Old C A C units report casualties amid fighting on the reach front as Lt Desir Ph Cowan of Stamsvard is killed. Telegrams confirm heavy bombardment near Prapelle with no further detail. In Suffield a tobacco barn fire at Hatheway and Steane West Suffield causes about 50000 in damage.

American patrols push beyond the line, Norroy and Moselle positions show activity while German divisions defend St Mihiel, inflicting counterattacks amid overall fluid battle conditions.
American forces pressed a restricted front near the Moselle with limited opposition and some machine gun resistance. German detachments dug in near Dontmertin and Donmartin, while rear defenses and new concrete dugouts were built. Allied air raids and bombardment increased, and captures included machine guns and ammunition as troops fought to seize a quarry position at dawn.
