A forest fire spread across the wooded slopes of Mt Evans near Idaho Springs Colorado with about 100 firefighters on the lines the Forest Service reported. The high peak above 14 000 feet underscores difficult terrain as crews battled the blaze.

Park costs remain low say CT park official

Connecticut state parks operate at a net cost under 100000 dollars annually to taxpayers, according to State Park and Forest Director Donald C. Matthews. He noted last year’s park budget about 800000 dollars with fees reducing the net to 200000–300000 dollars. UConns Future Plans Tied to Growth and Public Trust

Fr Speer Named Pastor in West Hartford

Fr Speer, a native of Bridgeport, was named pastor of St Juba the vanpelist church in West Hartford. He had served as assistant at St Martin de Porres in New Haven since June 1950 and was ordained May 22, 1941.

Trustees Seek Auction of Boston Taunton Land and Bronx Plot

The New Haven railroad trustees ask permission to sell about five acres in Boston for 127 400 with 10 percent paid, and 29 400 square feet in the Bronx for 50 000 with unpaid taxes halved by the railroad. They also seek authority to spend 150 000 on additions and betterments to prevent deterioration. Hearings set for September 21, 1963.

Man Arrested in Bridgeport Slaying Attempt Case

Carlos Andovjar Carrera, 37, of 199 Osborne Street, was arrested by Bridgeport police on a Philadelphia warrant charging assault with intent to kill. Detectives Alexander Wicek and Bert Lancia nabbed him at his home after tips he was living there. He is held on $10,000 bond awaiting arraignment.

Stamford Man Held in Girl Molestation Case

Stamford man Phillip Memolr, 22, was arrested by Bridgeport police on a charge of improper incident involving a 16 year old mental rejected ill. Patrolman Frank Kapostas took him into custody in the South End at 2:45 p.m. after a description was broadcast. He is held in lieu of bail awaiting circuit court arraignment.

Republican lieutenant governor candidate Joseph A. Adorno of Middletown pitches GOP aid to small business at Bridgeport, urging a change in administration to curb rising taxes and state debt. About 20 people attended a $100-a-plate fundraiser at Birchwood Country Club for Governor Dempsey and Abrikan A. Ribicoff. Proceeds were split between the two campaigns.
