Fireworks Tragedy in Norwalk Leaves Seven Seriously Hurt

Six victims of a fatal fireworks explosion in Norwalk remain in serious condition at Norwalk Hospital. Three men were arrested on manslaughter charges as investigators probe negligence for failing to rope off the street during a midnight two day display run by the Maria della Maria society. The blast killed Julius Popp, nine, and injured Edward Crofoot and others as a crowd of about 5,000 watched.

Station Broadcasts Program to Old Glory

Paterson New Jersey dispatch reports station WODA began broadcasting phonograph records to the Old Glory during its flight to Europe. The program started at 4 30 p m and will continue until 6 a m tomorrow. A wavelength of 293 meters was used.

Water mains burst floods business district on Fairfield Avenue

A main on Fairfield Avenue near Middle Street burst early last night flooding the street as emergency crews, from the water company, repaired the break. Concurrently another pipe on the excavation site of the new bank and street caused further flooding prompting a shut off to protect the cellar of a nearby building.

Old Glory and St Raphael Monoplanes Identical in Build

New York confirms the monoplane Old Glory from Old Orchard Maine matches the ill fated St Raphael in model, engine and construction. Both are Fokker aircraft with Bristol Jupiter 450 horsepower engines. only paint and names differ.

Pretty Teacher Held for Ransom Near Corning N Y

Miss Geanie E. McClure, twenty one, a Corning schoolteacher, vanished August 30 after visiting her mother in Johnson City NY. A ransom letter postmarked Buffalo September 3 was received by her uncle Duncan McClure and turned to police. The note promised no harm but demanded payment with a threat to prolong her captivity.

Fairfield G O P Nominates Hunting ton and Domonkos for Town Offices

The Fairfield Republican town committee backed David H Huntington for tax collector and David Domon kos for second selectman at the caucus for town officers to be held Friday night. Clara M Flink, currently town clerk and tax collector, was nominated for town clerk after announcing she would not seek renomination, while Huntington was favored for second post without her comment. Pastors Absent Delayed Hearing On Sunday Movies

Interest from BridgeportPastors association kept members away causing the Sunday movie hearing to be postponed to the next adjourned Council meeting on September 19. The council approved $680000 in bonds and considered a moving picture ordinance for Sunday displays May to April with price limits and police license revocation provisions. Gasoline station petitions were heard but continued.

Slight Rise in Infantile Paralysis Cases in Hartford

Hartford reports a modest weekly uptick in infantile paralysis with 19 new cases in eight days versus 12 the prior week. Health Commissioner Stanley H. Milford Policeman under Suspension Over Ex Official’s Home

Milford Sept 6 A temporary police appointee Clifford Perry was suspended for conduct unbecoming a police officer after allegedly being intoxicated in ex commissioner James P Ferrick’s home at 115 High Street. A servant’s husband complained as Perry insulted a servant and could not leave until Friday morning. Police Chief Maher filed the case with the police commissioners who planned further investigation. Ferrick, president of Milford Lumber Co., was among the town’s early police commissioners.

Philip A. Payne, editor of the New York Mirror, captains the Old Glory as passenger and flight director. Born in California and educated in New Jersey, he rose from Perth Amboy to editor roles and joined Hearst after World War I.
