Property lists filed slowly on opening day
Comparatively few property owners or taxpayers appeared at the City Hall yesterday to file property lists or pay taxes. At the assessor's office about 200 had come in and prepared their lists, with 22,000 to 23,000 lists to be filed. the average may be much larger, or a rush is expected. In the collectors office about 200 paid the second installment of the year's taxes, with a total amount not yet tallied. There is roughly 1,000,000 to be received this month, urging taxpayers to come in early. Arrangements for receiving lists are improved, with council chamber seating, ample clerks, and benches for waiting taxpayers. Assessor Frank J. Hearn called the new setup more convenient for all concerned.
