Medal for Stratford rescuer of drowning boy

Stratford resident Frederick Wo DeRich was awarded a bronze Carnegie Medal for bravery for rescuing 13 year old George Dio from a pond in Berkshire Mill Park. The May 9, 1924 rescue involved multiple bystanders and a dangerous plunge to reach the boy, who had fallen from a water pipe under a bridge.

Woman fatally injured by auto dies in hospital

Mrs A K Apeiquist 358 West avenue reported fatally injured when struck by a car driven by Walter C Sanders near Warrem street. She died at St Vincents hospital from a fractured skull and internal injuries. Sanders, with two witnesses, said the woman stepped from a curb into his path, making a stop impossible.
