Roberta Smith a mother of five died at 9 a.m. in Bridgeport hospital from stab wounds received August 5 during a fight with her husband Herbert Smith. The testimony was part of continued hearings in the Mary Jo Kopechne case.

The Office of Economic Opportunity announced plans to halt all federal financial aid to Training, Education and Manpower Inc (TEAM) on November 2. Member communities Ansonia, Derby, Milford, Seymour and Shelton receive funding. TEAM is accused of failing to provide necessary services and to follow policies. Comment from local TEAM officials was not immediately available.
