Oil Stations Cause Row in Council in Doheny Era

At a heated Common Council session last night oil issues sparked a dispute over permits. Mexican Petroleum Co was granted a license to erect a gasoline station at Stratford Avenue and Maiden Lane extension without a public hearing, while plans for Sam Corp's Fire committee station by the Palace Theatre were sidetracked. A public hearing was ordered for November 3 on Carp's station and four Mex Pete proposals.

Seek Woman Seen by Boy On Night Of The Theft

Detectives probe a Bon Ton Dress shop burglary at 1447 Main Street where 125 gowns were taken. A boy saw a woman near the rear of the store the night of the crime, while a man who asked about gowns and showed nearly the entire stock may be involved. Authorities track the man across cities. a second sighting places him with two others in a Ford on Fulton Street. The total loss is estimated around 3600 dollars.

Bandit Robs Gas Station. Police Hunt Suspect

A midnight hold up at a Stratford gas station left clerk Sidney Dunning knocked down after resisting a revolver wielding bandit. The thief escaped in a car, with police from Stratford and Bridgeport alerted and pursuing. Earlier, a similar raid in West Haven yielded $25. Operators notified the on duty police and a general alarm was issued.

Panic in theatre causes one death in New Castle

Thousand Dollars Stolen From Mattress In Broad Day Burglary

Mrs Mary Nugent family of 410 North Washington avenue reported a burglary yesterday. A mattress in their bedroom was slit to remove about a thousand dollars sewn inside by the Nugents for safety. A 16 year old witness, Mary Malise, saw a man in a task leaving shortly after six. The Nugents run a gas station and store at 910 North Washington avenue. the room was ransacked and the money vanished.

Boys Believed Drowned Found Inland Near Stratford

Stratford residents rejoiced as two boys aged 14 and 13 from Stratford area were found alive eight miles north of Derby on a lonely Oxford road. The youths, believed to have drowned during a canoe trip on the Housatonic River, were located at noon today while trudging toward Stratford.

Four Killed in Accident on Navy Trenton Cruiser

Four men died and 48 were injured when a flare back exploded at the front gun mount during target practice on the scout cruiser Trenton off the Virginia Capes.
