Cork Oct 17 The first death among Cork hunger strikers occurred tonight. Fitzgerald died at 9 43 p m after starting a fast on Aug 11 and being treated by prison doctors with nun nursing. He was arrested in Sept 1919 and accused of killing British Private Jones at Fermoy on Sept 7 1919. The Cork assizes had found a true bill July 81 but trial delayed. He outlived MacSwiney by about thirty hours and prompted medical attention for the strikers.

Bridgeport police kept on alert for two escaped Sing Sing inmates, George Stivers and Marcus Bassett, after a series of robberies across nearby towns.
