Samuel F Carpenter of Ridgefield boasted before Judge Waldo Marvin that he comes from the best aristocracy and denigrated his critics as pitied crawling worms while his wife Katherine LaSalle, a former Broadway actress, seeks divorce on grounds of mental cruelty. Their marriage ended with permanent separation in 1925 after a 1917 wedding in New York. Mrs Carpenter, 42, has four children by a prior marriage. he is 56. The case features prominent lawyers from New York, Hartford, Stamford, and a roster of stage and screen credits for Katherine.
Danbury October 14. Lieut. Gov Hiram Bingham spoke to a packed City Hall rally critical of Democratic charges that Republicans favor privilege. He argued that voting rights, education, and labor laws show Republicans promoting access and opportunity for all children, citing state histories and recent statutes as proof. Congressman Merritt and Mrs. Chamberlain also spoke.
