West End Man Dies After Basement Injury

Berkley Payne, 44, of 42 Organ Street, lay injured in a basement for more than eight hours before a family member found him unconscious. He died at Park City Hospital after being found with a skull bleed. Police say he fell on firewood while in the basement Saturday morning.

Ansonia Fire Evacuates Four Families and Racks Up Damage

A two alarm blaze gutted a three story frame building in Ansonia on October 13. Four families were evacuated, no injuries reported, but a cocker spaniel died in the smoke. Damage estimated at 20000 dollars. The ground floor housed a restaurant. fire began in the restaurant and an explosion was reported by the owner. The cause remained undetermined.

Two Tucson Teens Held in Airman Shooting Case

In Tucson, deputies identified Paul Ginn and Richard Gebhart, both 15, as suspects in the shooting of Air Force Captain G. H. Wester. The youths, who had camped in the Catalina foothills, confessed after being tracked by footprints from the crime scene.

Torrential cloudbursts drenched Texas with up to 11 inches of rain causing creeks to overflow. Ballinger evacuated about 30 families as the Colorado River surged toward flood stage. CCDS Congress Ends With Pontifical Mass at Notre Dame High

About 2,500 people attended the solemn Pontifical Mass yesterday afternoon at Notre Dame Catholic High School Park Avenue as the 11th regional congress of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine concluded. Over 3,400 delegates from New England had registered during the three day congress.
