UN group stalls blame in Greek crisis vote

In Lake Success on October 11 the UN General Assembly Political Committee approved a toned down measure taking account of a Security Council report on Greek guerrillas. It refused to name Yugoslavia Albania or Bulgaria as direct supporters and backed a plan to form a Balkans watch group, despite Soviet bloc opposition and abstentions.

Miami Feared From Freak Hurricane Strain

Miami-area residents faced rising floods and power outages as a freak hurricane surged toward Miami. Winds near the center likely reached hurricane force, with 75 mph gusts forecast along the east coast. Torrential rains drenched the area as Everglades blooded by 1.84 inches in ten minutes. A pair of evacuation trains moved inland from Fort Pierce toward Lake Okeechobee amid warnings of flood danger.

Auto crashes injure three. one held on auto law

A woman, a man, and a two year old child were injured in three auto mishaps yesterday with a four year old boy unhurt in a fourth. Mrs Frank O Neil of 249 Dover street suffered multiple lacerations at Main and Goldenrod streets after a left turning car driven by George McClain of New Haven struck Sage's car carrying O Neil. McClain was arrested for violation of auto laws and later released on a summons. O Neil was treated at St Vincent's hospital and released. Ann Hammond of 416 Main street was a passenger in the accident.

Oil Refinery Blast Rocks Buffalo Area

An explosion at a Standard Oil refinery in south Buffalo today triggered a fourth alarm and summoned all available firefighting equipment. A nearby resident called the blast terrific.

Father Daughter Overcome by Gas At Home

Stephen Bako a thirty seven year old man and his nine year old daughter Elizabeth narrowly escaped death when found overcome by carbon monoxide fumes in their second floor apartment at 400 Bostwick avenue. Mrs Bako had come home to discover them and a private physician summoned aid. Both were revived at St Vincent's hospital with the father listed as fair and the girl as good. Radio Patrolmen Snow and Kiernan investigated and reported the gas was escaping from a sun oven used to heat the three room unit.

Chile Unmoved by Tito's Action in Yugoslav Break

Santiago reports Yugoslavia severed diplomatic relations in Belgrade after Chile expelled two Yugoslav diplomats for seditious activities and espionage. Governor Hils Rent Gougers Urges Leniency in Evictions

Hartford Oct 11 AP Governor McConaughy condemned landlords who sidestep rent control and called for lenient eviction handling. He asked Connecticut courts to scrutinize cases carefully and decisions to follow the law to the extreme limits. Special Election Set For Tuesday In Fairfield Tie Vote

Fairfield voters face a run off after a recount upheld a 4198 to 4198 tie between John Ferguson and Frank Landy for first selectman and second selectman.
