Dull Produce Trade With Prices Dropping At Bridgeport Markets
Bridgeport produce houses report generally dull business with vegetable prices lower than in years past. Sweet potatoes and Connecticut Valley onions are plentiful and cheap. Retailers pay 4.26 to 5 per barrel for three bushels and 2.25 to 3 for 100 pounds of onions. Prices for apples, grapes, oranges, lemons, beans, cabbage, cantaloupes, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, and potatoes vary, with many items at notably reduced wholesale figures, urging housewives to buy when possible.
