UE Strike Vote Called Over GE Labor Row

Two Men Die in Head on Collision on Old Town Road

A head on crash on Old Town road near Frenchtown road killed 50 year old Harry Stoeppel of 2949 Reservoir avenue Trumbull and another man. A third man in a van was injured when his vehicle hit the wreckage. Fire and police freed the victims with power saws and tow trucks. The crash occurred at about 7 50 last night. The other driver Lacobelle 18 of 1890 Old Town road Trumbull died at scene. The van driver Robert Kent 23 was not named in later report. Scene investigated by Dr. George Molnar medical examiner. Erie Appeal To Hit Merger

Erie-Lackawanna and other eastern railroads filed a Supreme Court appeal to delay the Pennsylvania New York Central merger. Auto Workers End Strike at Chrysler Twinsburg Plant

Danbury Fair Sees Record Thursday Attendance

Danbury Fair posted 10 398 paid admissions on Thursday the largest for any Thursday. The six day total reached 117 939 and ahead of last year as the fair aims for a new nine day attendance record. Weather outlook calls for clear skies through Sunday the final day of the 97th exhibition. Danbury Day closes schools and offers free passes to over 12 000 local students invited by General Manager John W Leahy.

UI Plans Major Demolition of Locomobile Building

The United Illuminating company will demolish most of the old Locomobile building at Tongue Point within the month and finish before November 1. A portion will remain until next summer due to leases with Remington Electric Shaver and a trucking firm. Fennell Defends Survey of Trees

A progress report on Bridgeport’s city-wide tree survey was issued last night by Joseph M. Fennell director of parks and recreation. He said the survey is about 65 to 70 percent complete covering 17.5 square miles with about 60,000 trees to be surveyed and roughly 225 trees found so far.

Searchers Find Body of Boy in Greenwich Swamp

A 3 year old boy, Frederick Banks, was found dead after a 28 hour search by more than 200 police, firemen and volunteers in a swamp near his North Greenwich home near the Stamford and New York borders. Greenwich police said medical examiner Dr. J Coleman Kelly would determine the cause of death and no statement would be released until findings are received. The boy had been reported missing after being seen playing near his Len Lane home Wednesday afternoon.
