Historical note on drinking glasses called cumbblers or sumblers, described as successors to previous rounded goblets. These items were balanced on tables and would tip yet return upright with the rim up, illustrating their self-righting design.
The Bridgeport branch B and P Club outlines October activities including weekly Saturday food sales from 11:80, open house 3 to 6, tea, a Monday October 8 dinner and 7:15 business meeting, a 6:30 dinner with speaker Rev. A. Gratt, an October 23 board meeting with supper, a chicken dinner October 28 from 3 to 7, Halloween stunts on October 31, Sunday sewing weekly, and social dancing starting October 18 under Miss Bessie Calendar.
Bridgeport Art League starts its 29th season with a reception October 18 at 3 to 3 at the clubhouse on Clinton Avenue. President Mrs. Samuel Gledhill and the executive board greet members and friends. The season features a lecture course beginning November 5 led by Jack Ferguson of New York.
Miss Gladys Hinderer to wed W Kentabeer. Mrs F D Hinderer and Mrs C S Hinderer hosted a surprise shower at the Tormers Nome in Fairview for the bride to be. Apricot and salmon colors featured. many gifts received. Other guests listed include Miss Helen Neidermeir, Miss Mary Neidermeir, and Mrs. J Speidel among others. Also notes on association home loan plans aiding housing, with Pennsylvania leading in members and assets. nationwide housing shortage remains severe, but such programs helped builders.
Advertisement promises a dandruff cure using four ounces of liquid arvon applied at night to moisten and rub into the scalp. It claims most dandruff disappears by morning with repeated applications, stopping itching and leaving hair fluffy and glossy. Arvon is said to be available at any drug store and “never fails.”

A Bridgeport Jewish Women Council meeting postponed. An antique shop opening delayed due to illness. Frances Baker returns to Himar a College. Ida Goldstein recovering after surgery at St. Vincent’s.
Susanne A Westbrock new secretary at Industrial Service Center of the YWCA will host Open House with Marion Bretz assisting. Week includes receptions, moving pictures, vaudeville, music, banquets, games, and dances. Open Sundays 3 to 5. 1923 24 classes cover basketball, dancing, sewing, cooking, and arts.
A surprise shower at Miss Laura LaBrecque’s house honored Cecelia Proulp, soon to wed Philip J Thompson. Guests included Miss Agnes Thibault, Mrs Joseph LaBrecque, Miss Mary McGuire, Miss Bernadette Proulp, Mrs Alice Poissant, and others. Dancing followed and luncheon was served.
A welcome home party was held Saturday night for Mr and Mrs Patrick Marino who recently returned from a long wedding trip. The home featured pink and blue decor. More than 100 guests attended the banquet followed by music and dancing. Miss Marguerite Paolotto sang and the couple will reside at 609 Winfield Avenue.

More than 200 members and guests attended the 25th anniversary celebration in Stratford. The afternoon featured yachting swimming and field races with diving exhibitions. Prominent officers of the Waterway League of America gave talks as the evening feature. R H Hunter Stratford Town Manager presented prizes after the events.
