Twelve Families Flee New Haven Tenement Fire

Tragic death of Peter Toplin near New London

The body of 27 year old Peter A. Toplin, assistant paymaster of Roxport Galr company, was found on a Waterford road three and a half miles from New London. He died from multiple skull fractures, with evidence suggesting he was struck or thrown from a vehicle. Police under Sergeant Clifford N. Gorgas investigated. Toplin attended a Chesterfield dance earlier but investigators could not identify accomplices or attendees. He was unmarried and survived by his parents who reside nearby.
