The Fire department informed Mayor Tedesco that implementing the 42 hour week will cost 137510 less next year than first estimated. The revised total for 1958 59 is 478251 with 107 new firefighters and raises for promoted officers, plus 23839 for equipment.
Dr Volney C Wilson of General Electric describes a device that converts heat into electric power by boiling electrons from super heated metal. Shown as an oversized television tube the unit in Schenectady lab has achieved high efficiency in laboratory tests and may in the long run enable solar or nuclear energy to become electricity.
Washington sources say a six inch, six pound sphere will be launched from Patrick Air Force Base in Florida mid next week using a Vanguard rocket. The satellite will emit signals on 108 megacycles and spin at 200 rpm, with no telemetering instruments. The 72 foot launcher weighs 22 000 pounds and aims for 40 miles altitude before separation.

Two sisters Celia Hoffman and Anna Schandler who ran the Hotel Zeiger at Fallsburg New York were found guilty by a Federal court jury of conspiring to misappropriate more than a quarter of a million dollars from the Ellenville bank. They faced up to five years in prison and a $100000 fine on the conspiracy count.
