Parkway Traffic Crashes Slow Thanksgiving Travel
Slippery pavement and heavy delays plagued Merritt Parkway travel between Greenwich and Milford during the 4 to 10 pm period as more than a score of mishaps and a dozen-car chain collisions tied up the route. A Glastonbury woman, Agnes Cowan, 76, suffered facial lacerations and was hospitalized at Norwalk after a three car crash at Comstock Hill overpass in Norwalk. Four more chain collisions followed in Norwalk, igniting a hourslong traffic jam extending for miles and prompting police to issue warnings as jams appeared across the parkway system from New York to the Wilbur Cross highway. Four people were injured in Durham when a bus and a truck collided on Routes 17 and 79, with care at Middlesex Memorial Hospital. Continued report noted.
