Norwalk storekeeper appeals fine over gambling machine
Carl Adams, lunch room operator near the White Fridge in Rowayton, appeals a $40 fine after Judge George T. Vosburgh found him guilty of keeping a gambling machine in his establishment. The case, delayed while similar rulings from New Haven and Hartford were awaited, centered on whether mint sales negated renewal with each coin. Prosecutor said Adams was not the true defendant as he merely ran the machine. Adams claimed he was told to keep it. Parents’ complaints about children spending money on the device helped prompt the arrest.
