Fear of Americans Drives Tartars to Emigration
In Erivan Armenia on November 17 a rumor that American troops will protect Armenia spurs Tartars to flee, with a caravan of about 6,000 people from fourteen villages along the Sevunt Alaghaz slope near Echmiadzin awaiting entry to the sultan's domain. The rumor lifts tension for Armenians living among Tartars while Tartars, long unruly under Turkish rule, fear and migrate. Separately Berlin reports plans to spend 22,000,000 marks on a presidential residence, and Vienna notes Austria will provide free school equipment to recall primary schools.
