Hartford Names Interim Fire Chief Amid City Manager Search
Hartford AP Hartford fire chief Edward Curtin was named interim city manager by a 7-2 vote of the City Council. He will serve until a permanent replacement for Elisha Freedman, who resigned to take a post in Montgomery County Maryland, is found, with a nationwide search planned for three to six months. Curtin entered the Fire Department in 1941 as a substitute firefighter and rose to administrative deputy chief in 1960. He was appointed chief five years later, a post usually held by the assistant chief. Curtin intends to return to fire chief duties once a permanent manager is named, with Assistant Fire Chief Francis Degnan acting as chief in the interim.
