Congress seeks return of German and Austrian property here

Washington May 46 Imediate return of old money and property held by the alien property custodian and treasurer of the United States belonging to former German and Austrian owners who are residents of the United States is ordered in a joint resolution introduced by Representative Sabath Democrat of Illinois. The resolution notes that four years have passed since the armistice and nearly 11 months since Congress declared peace. It asserts Germany and Austria have ordered restoration of seized property to allied citizens, including Americans, and that much U.S. property in Germany has been returned. The measure argues the alien property custodian still holds nearly as much property seized from German citizens in the United States, many of whom are no longer German citizens. The proposed action cites amendments to the Trading with the Enemy Act adopted in 1970 as ample authority.
