Ceylon Opens General Elections Amid Britain Ties Question
In Colombo on May 23 three million voters begin general elections for 95 of 101 House seats. Dudley Senanayake seeks a mandate after his father Don Stephen Senanayake’s death. Voting starts tomorrow in 20 districts with 308 candidates. Balloting in remaining districts runs May 26, 28 and 30.

Fairfield Ponders New Job for Ludlowe High Principal
Fairfield Board of Education considers replacing Har old A. Swaffield as principal of Roger Ludlowe High School with a younger leader as the school moves to double sessions next September. Swaffield, 63, would be offered a paid leave of absence and later reassigned to a staff position. Swaffield has 38 years in administration and 25 years as Ludlowe principal, and recently became president of the New England Secondary School Education Association while active in Fairfield civic life.

Presbyterians Approve Unity Program Across Denominations
The 2.5 million member Presbyterian Church in the U S A adopted a broad program of cooperative activity with the 700,000 member Presbyterian Church in the U S and the 300,000 member United Presbyterian Church. The plan envisions joint evangelism stewardship pulpit exchange chaplains for the armed forces and a common hymnal as a step toward union with a general assembly set to consider a final plan next year. Gov. Dewey urged spiritual strength to avert future war. The assembly also approved a resolution condemning greed and certain business practices violating the Sabbath.
