A high speed crash involving a sidecar mounted bicycle injured one critically and left two dying after the machine swerved to avoid a collision and mounted the curb. Authorities investigate the crash scene and identify the riders.
A motorcycle with three occupants from 1836 View Avenue crashed on Madison Avenue near Capitol, striking the sidewalk. Scott 25 and Tarrico 25 suffered skull fractures and were admitted to St Vincent’s with grave to critical conditions. Cicaturo 10 is gravely hurt but may recover. Witness Samuel Sheiner reported the rider failed to avoid the turn as the bike toppled.
Amos P. Wilder, former U S consul general to China, told a United Church Forum that Americans should adopt a kinder view of the Chinese. He praised their potential for national greatness despite centuries of stagnation and urged Christian influence to spur growth while noting Confucianism has both merits and pagan practices.

Washington May 23 Hearings start tomorrow before the Interstate Commerce Commission on revising the nations freight rate structure to guarantee 46 percent returns on railway properties. Representatives from nearly all transportation interests will present their cases as three state bodies join the commission. The proposed increases aim to boost overall road earnings by 1 017 million dollars to reach an income of 6 percent, with eastern, southern and western regions slated for notable rate hikes to yield higher returns.
A Dublin train of munitions from a steamer arriving at Mingstown, bound for Cork, was halted today as drivers refused to operate the train and signalmen would not pass munition trains through.
The funeral for Peter Gabler of Lone Ei, a Connecticut pioneer cigar manufacturer, will be held today at 2 30 PM from Grace Episcopal church Long Hill. Rev L Robert Shemels will officiate assisted by Rev Edward Gabler a nephew. Burial will follow at Long Hill cemetery with full Elks honors and delegations from Bridgeport lodge Elks Odd Fellows Cigar Makers Union and the Ladies Auxiliary of the G A E attending.
Bodies of 19 war nurses who died overseas arrive on the transport Princess Matoick, with 418 soldiers. Relatives claim their remains. unclaimed bodies go to An Rural cemetery for burial. About 1,699 Polish troops who joined the war effort are noted in transit.
Washington May 28 A reward of 2500 is offered by Bergdoll s counsel for the arrest and delivery to military authorities of Grover Cleveland Bergdoll an escaped military prisoner The offer is signed by D Clarence Gibbons Philadelphia and Ansell and Batty Washington DC attorneys It follows Bergdoll s sensational escape from his mother s Philadelphia home and involves a fortune Bergdoll claimed to have hidden near Huguetown Md Officials report Bergdoll was confronted by his guards at North Philadelphia station before the escape and a motor mishap delayed the plan Continued on page two
Pussyfoot Johnson, famed prohibition activist, will address a Bridgeport audience at the First Methodist Church under the Connecticut Anti-Glutton league. A bolt struck Morris Séhwarts house at North and Nichols avenues Stratford Saturday afternoon ripping the roof, demolishing the chimney, knocking plaster from walls and shaking the second floor. No one was in the house. Damage estimated at 500 dollars.
In Rome on May 26 Oliver Plunket the Irish divine, first archbishop of Armagh, executed in 1681, was canonized. The Mass was celebrated in St Peter's Basilica by Archbishop Edward Ashley of Birmingham, with papal bull read and relics exposed. The rite drew bells ringing in Dublin and across the city.
Hiram W. Johnson led Oregon Republican presidential preference by 1839 votes over Lesnard Wood, based on 407 complete and six incomplete Multnomah precinct counts, with incomplete returns from other counties also noted. In Thomaston seven injured when a motor truck crashed on Summit Hill road, two probably fatally, on a Hartford to Torvington journey.
A dispatch from Juan Barragan, Carranza’s chief of staff, reports the president killed by Herrero's forces at Tlaxcalantongo after a dawn betrayal. The assault wounded and killed Carranza as guards resisted, with sixty captives taken and foreign embassies lowering flags in mourning.

Chicago women plan to form an Elizabethan society to enrich daily speech with pep and punch. Mrs. Catherine Knowles Ribbing reports the aim from the Chicago Woman's Club better speech committee, noting an eighth grade vocabulary of about 306 words and urging a return to old Elizabethan terms.
