19 year old GI sentenced to death for German killings
A 19 year old American soldier, Pvt. F Vigneault of Goff Falls New Hampshire, was sentenced by a nine officer Army court martial in Nuremberg to death for the April 19 killings of two German men after a tavern outing. The defense claims he was mentally troubled and says he was egged on by Pvt. R Hagelberger of Chula Vista California, who also faces trial. The incident sparked German demands for justice as spectators watched officials correct the case with military legal processes.
