Forester argues fire protection inadequate in Connecticut

State Forester Austa F Hawes says the $15 000 annual appropriation cannot fund effective forest fire protection. He cites fires this season as proof and calls a June 24 meeting of wardens and rural property owners at the capitol to seek a larger appropriation, better equipment, more lookout stations, and paid trained crews. He notes rural owners pay 10 to 25 cents per acre yet get only one cent for protection and urges participation to boost protection and save forests and farms.
