Action on a strike and lockout measure is expected when the general assembly convenes next Tuesday. The sponsors say the bill protects public welfare without favoring employers or labor and targets unlawful strikes and lockouts by any party while mandating specific contract change requests and reasonable consideration periods.
Washington May 18 Federal prohibition forces will be reduced more than two thirds for a forty day period starting Friday due to lack of funds. Commissioner Kramer said rigid enforcement cannot continue with a depleted staff though some expect little rise in illegal traffic. Wheeler and other Prohibition League officials warned of a large increase in liquor law violations.
Germany plans the initial payment to the reparations commission totaling 150 million marks, with 110 million gold marks and the rest in bills and checks. The announcement draws guarded reactions from France, with papers noting potential use of the funds to cover interest on war bonds and highlighting uncertainty over the exact delivery date.

Hartrport May 15 special report says unfavor able report on resolution naming Theodore J. Steiber as deputy judge of the city court for Pridgeport. The report was adopted and the resolution rejected. Chisson blocks Steiber’s judge post but judiciary committee not yet reported on the main proposition. Committee likely to reconvene next Tuesday with a report expected next Wednesday.
Washington May 15 Big business waits on a European settlement as tariff and taxation debates fall behind the rush of reparations and other European news. Writers note that tariff politics lag due to a growing view that foreign trade paralysis must be fixed first, a sentiment spreading from Washington through Congress and the country.
New York May 18 appraisal of the estate of George W. Flint of Hartford Connecticut who died April 3 1920 valued his property at 316.57 with 22591 of securities taxable in New York. His widow Mrs Vint was left 288815 while the residue went to other relatives nationwide.
Mrs John Brockway formerly of Waterbury Conn and now in New York, shot herself through the heart at the Montichelin hotel after months of ill health. Her husband accompanied her to the city several weeks ago.
Hartford May 15 The firel bree bell league of teams composed wholly of girls has been formed here by the Travelers Girls Club of the Hartford insurance company. The club numbers over 7,600 with eight teams from as many departments. A four-game weekly schedule is set, games played under national rules with standard equipment on a slightly smaller diamond.
Wade Wade, awaiting trial on burglary charges, spent an hour with Ivan and remains calm and indifferent as his execution nears. Mrs Nott, wife of the murdered man, goes about her daily work awaiting her own trial for murder in the first degree. The night before the sentence, Wade shows no fear, while the case unfolds in Connecticut with the trials set to begin next Tuesday.
Dr Simon Louis Katzoff told the Philosophical Society health and longevity ideas in a lecture. He praised kissing as a genuine gesture of affection and warned against corsets and immodest dress while supporting vaccination and heat as a germ killer. He criticized margarine and canned foods and urged a kidney health campaign.
Pensacola Florida May 48 former governor of Florida C Catt was indicted by a federal grand jury for peonage. The indictment alleges Catts after obtaining pardon for two Black convicts forced them to work on a fort in West Florida. He had recently been named in Bradford County for taking 70 dollars for a pardon of a prisoner serving a life term for murder.
Beelin May 43. Associated Press states Eitel Fritz, son of former emperor William, was found guilty of illegally exporting capital to Holland through the firm Grlisser and Jan oany. He received a fine of 5,000 marks for conduct not in honest motives.
School Superintendent Samuel J. Slawson was re-elected for one year at $6,000 as the board suspended rules. Leroy Weller received a $10 raise, and most teachers got salary increases. Mary Ford was not re-elected. Emeritus principal H. Simonds to be approved. executive session lasted two hours.
Reports indicate British Prime Minister David Lloyd George and American envoy Harvey will meet at a dinner in London. The event, hosted by the Bilrims, follows a breakfast with the ambassador arriving for discussions on international questions.
In Byronville Virginia near Vienna, a clash between about 20 African Americans and a sheriff's posse left two men dead and four wounded. Lt Day of Bennerville was reportedly fatally wounded as deputies moved to arrest the group who had barricaded in a farmhouse. Twenty suspects were arrested and taken into protective custody.
In a brief May 18 report along the West Virginia Kentucky line, only scattered shots near Mutewan and Spriggs W. V. indicated conflict persists. A ten year old boy from Southport was struck by an express train near the Post Road. His skull was fractured and he died before his body sank in the river. Two companions escaped unharmed as rescuers and authorities prepared for inquest and investigation.
