Abductress Nabbed in Bridgeport. Baby Reunited

Five months old Shirley Jacobus, kidnapped from New York two weeks earlier, was found in Bridgeport with Pearl Ferguson at 604 Main Street. Police from Bridgeport and New York arrested Ferguson after quick photo recognition by Patrolman McCarthy. Detective work spanned Danbury Bethel Springfield Lawrence and Boston before the capture. The child appeared undernourished though Ferguson claimed care. Detective Sergeant Conkling planned to take Ferguson to New York for further charges.

Two Men Injured in Auto Versus Cycle Crash

Two men were thrown from a motorcycle after a collision with an automobile at Lafayette street and South avenue. Both suffered fractured legs and other injuries, with abrasions to the face and body. Victims are Vincent and Wadoay Nacewiz, brothers of 342 Railroad avenue. Driver was Ed ward Pinto of 458 Bunnell street. Treatment by Dr. Matthew J. Foley at first aid, then transported to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance driven by Clifford Bright.

Neches cargo carrier torpedoed with no loss of life

The 7175 ton American steamer Neches was torpedoed and sunk in the night of May 14 to May 15 while returning light with no soldiers aboard. About 125 crew members are believed saved. Neches was chartered by the U.S. Shipping Board and built in 1914.
