Chou Warns China to Bar US In Vietnam War

CHICAGO (UP) Premier Chou En-lai and four other top Chinese Communist leaders warned a Western newsman that Red China would send its vast armies into Vietnam if Hanoi is threatened with invasion or a comprised peace. The interviews, published in the Chicago Daily News, reveal China’s readiness to act if U S troops threaten North Vietnam, with Chou saying Americans would not be allowed near Chinese borders and China would reconsider its policy if U S actions force them to intervene.

Bridgeport Weekend Accidents Hurt Twelve People

Bridgeport police investigated four weekend accidents that left twelve injured, with two in serious condition. On Huntington Turnpike near Trumbull four injured, one severely. at St. Vincent’s hospital serious chest injuries reported for 78 year old man from Cowles Street. Also treated and released were Mary McCormick of Jacksonville Florida and Frederick and Margaret Anderson of Savoy Street. A separate fatal shooting occurred at a local bar with one suspect held.

Auto crashes injure twelve in Bridgeport spree

Police described a head on collision where a McCormick woman’s car was struck by a Theriault vehicle. The Theriault car first hit highway posts then crossed control into the McCormick auto, then struck a pole and backed onto Meyers Dworkin property on Huntington Turnpike. In the same night, a murder at Belle S Bar and Grill on Lexington Avenue left four victims, with Willie Hairston charged with murder and held without bail. Several patrons were wounded, including Patricia Smith and Anna Marie Sommerall, as detectives investigated the shooting and gathered weapons.
