New York May 14 Trading in bonds was quiet with heavy oversubscription of the latest U S treasury notes lending a firm tone to government securities which rose about one thirty-second to 4 328. Foreign issues were little changed with French issues up slightly and Mexican bonds up a point. The road group saw New Haven gain one point while Chicago and Great Western fell a point as rail equipment trust certificates remained overissued. Potomac Electric Power bonds led a small offering at 104 1 2 with about 5.9 percent yield. Total sales par value 19 697 000.

Washington May 14 The Department of Agriculture predicts a winter wheat crop of 478 287 000 bushels the smallest in years based on May 1 conditions. The forecast shows declines from 1922 1921 and 1920 and trails the ten year average by 2 percent. Abandonment ranges from 1 percent in Iowa to 40 percent in South Dakota with Illinois and Nebraska also dropping seeded acreage.
