Mr and Mrs Fried Held In Liquor Case

Mr and Mrs Samu Fried of Stratford were arrested May 1 by Prohibition officers on suspicion of lawful possession of about 70 gallons of spirits. They were held for the next term of the district court with bonds set at $1,000 each. A hearing before Commissioner Hugh J Lavery Friday discussed the seizure of 15 containers from the Smith Street home and alleged rental of a bedroom closet for $252 a month. The defendants’ attorney claimed the real guilt lay with others who sold the spirits. The couple were released on their lawyer’s promise pending renewal of bail.
