Compo Beach Notes On Shore Road Work And Openings
Contractors building the shoreline road from Southport to East Norwalk through Westport plan to start at the Minute Man on Coppe and extend to Bridge Street. In three weeks work will advance toward the shore near Edwards Bedford and one half of the route will be completed to permit traffic to Compo. Police will oversee crossings near Hil Point, with Old Mill access by the rear for beach traffic. From Minute Man to Bridge Street trolley tracks and provisions will be arranged for new tracks and ties along the highway. The Old Mill bridge being built for Jerry Keehan will be opened for occupancy at the end of the day. Bath houses and pavilions at Camps Beach are being repaired for the formal opening on Memorial Day. Paths will be cleared after snow removal. Three holes will stand in front of the Regina Pavilion this year, replacing previous structures, with nine floats planned for the bathers’ pavilion. Rising beach use is noted as the season approaches and officials consider measures. The Compo Gate Guard prepares for Memorial Day, with Commander Addison Austin compiling a guard list for today’s high tide. A watch tower will be activated in about a week.
