Motorcycle collision injures Bridgeport officer near Briarwood Farms

Patrolman Joseph Paul, 41, was injured last night at 9 42 in East Main Street crash near Briarwood Farms restaurant. Taken to Bridgeport Hospital with a broken right leg and listed in fair condition. The 18 year old driver George Baktis failed to yield while turning into the Briarwood Farms lot. no injuries to passengers. The driver was charged for license absence.

Two Bridgeport youths arrested in Fort Lauderdale trip

Bridgeport detectives returned Richard Buckley 20 of Myrtle Avenue and Willian Durnin 41 of Jetland Street from Fort Lauderdale yesterday afternoon on charges of larceny and theft of a motor vehicle. They allegedly stole $2,000 in travelers checks and $320 cash from Buckley's sister. They will be arraigned in Superior Court Monday as investigations determine how much money was spent.

Dempsey Rejects Plan to Cut Guard Units in Conn

Hartford May 4 AP A conference between Governor Dempsey and Maj. Gen. Frederick G. Reinecke halted a Pentagon proposed reduction of two Connecticut National Guard battalions. The plan would have cut Nike Ajax air defense and engineer units, affecting 475 guardsmen. Reinecke argued the state could not approve losses without knowing troop type and numbers. The two units targeted were in Bridgeport and other state locations, while the broader 4th division reserves remained unaffected.

Redding Votes Funds for Dump Acquisition and Clearup
