Tong Peace Pact Ends Five Month Tong War in New York
An official peace agreement ends a five month feud between On Leong and Hip Sing Tongs in the United States. The signing occurred in New York with 20 police at the scene and 100 patrolling Chinatown. Leaders from both sides concede a victory and banquets are planned to celebrate. The pact forbids further charges against suspended leaders who joined the opposing side and limits organizing new groups, while also prohibiting witnesses from pending court actions. The conflict began after Tom Fong of the On Leongs attacked Hip Sing territory on Pell Street, costing eighteen Tongmen their lives in the fighting.
