Bridgeport's Lost Major Leagues Past and Local Baseball Legacy
Bridgeport's baseball scene recalls a past with few major league players staying home in the off season. Notable Bridgeport links include Frankie Stapleton, Md Ticke, and Gene Martin, with older stars Downey, Keating, and Billy Lush highlighted. The Board of Recreation maintains 16 diamonds, supports local contests, and funds equipment. Old Sunday prohibitions gave way to modern facilities, uniforms, and street-ball origins. Players pursue opportunities with Pittsfield, Springfield, and New Haven affiliates, while Reilly and local figures endure as enduring athletic figures.
