Milford's Board of Finance restored 111,813 for 1962-63 to fund 17 new teachers, risking a tax levy increase to about 36.5 mills and tying the school budget to mayoral proposals while threatening kindergarten cuts that would affect about 1,000 children.

A woman identified as Bertha Sent, 24, was slashed and beaten during a dispute with a man and remained in critical condition at St. Vincent's hospital. Patrolman Thomas Jordan was head and face injured while arresting the suspect and is hospitalized in Park City with severe injuries.
Fairfield police report two Greenfield Hill homes were broken into on Saturday. Robberies occurred while families were away at 2360 Bronson Road and 2444 Bronson Road, leaving extensive damage described by Patrolman Donald Cavanaugh as looking like a cyclone hit the houses.
Police report a trash barrel set ablaze at the St. Pius X parish center on Brookside Drive in Fairfield. The fire burned out in compressed cardboard. investigators flag vandalism but say motive unclear. An entry was likely via a rear door and a meeting had been held Friday night. Officers noted items left around the building and possible theft of small valuables.

A large blaze at Hult Dye Works Inc on Roosevelt Street Derby caused substantial damage, with estimates between 250 000 and 500 000 dollars. Two gunmen hijacked an armored car at a Jacksonville dog track, bound the driver and guard with tape, and escaped with nine bags totaling $88,269 in cash and checks. Ronald A. Bassett, president of the Independent Aircraft Guild, said the guild will not disband and will continue to serve hourly rated Sikorsky employees. The group might file an objection with the National Labor Relations Board regarding last week's Sikorsky election, where bargaining rights were lost to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The board unanimously approved a statement that the guild shall remain in existence, conduct periodic meetings, and continue accepting contributions as an organization to serve the hourly rated employees.
Patrolman Joseph Deurilla used a nightstick to halt fleeing 14 year old Wa syl Zazulak at Fairfield avenue. Zazulak tried to flee after leaving a police car and tripped on the stick. He later refused a meal at Esquire diner and threw food at the manager before being recaptured with help. Charged with breach of the peace and resisting arrest, bail set at 200 dollars.
Two young boys in a stall rowboat were blown into the Long Island Sound by strong winds yesterday at 2 40 pm. Arthur Bradtmuller and James Paavi, both cousins aged 14, are the subjects of a Coast Guard search as police report their disappearance near Fairfield Beach. A Coast Guard helicopter aided the hunt but no trace was found. a plane spotted a boat offshore, yet the search continued at dawn. Arthur, an eighth grader at McKinley School, is one of three children in his family.
