Swingwing F111s arrive in Thai for Viet combat fore the aircraft goes into full squadron service. According to U.S. Air Force combat pilots, the F111 will have to be good to measure up to the F105 Thunderchief. Many pilots skeptical about the F111 and few complete 100 missions volunteer for F111 squadrons in the states.
The sheriff said no victims escaped as the Beechcraft BE-18 crashed during a landing into a 20 mph crosswind with gusts to 25 mph. Broken clouds at 7,000 feet and 35 mile visibility were reported. Officials speculated the crosswind may have flipped the plane.
Death toll rises to eight as a ship bound from New Orleans to Sydney collides with an oil barge about a mile below Pointe A La Hache. Survivors listed include Richard Schauer, William Combasa, Lucas Quevedo, Arthur Batchelor, and Arthur Hudson. The dead include Mrs Courtney Fowler and several crewmen from Baltimore, New York, and other cities.
Nicholas DeBrizzi aged 46 of 365 Roosevelt Street was arrested by Bridgeport police last night on an assault charge connected to a complaint by his ex wife Katherine. He is accused of striking her in front of 56 Beach Street. He awaits Circuit Court arraignment with bail set at 100 dollars.
A fire of undetermined origin caused about 3600 dollars of damage yesterday at 3:54 p m in the home of Lawrence Ackley at 76 Lighthouse avenue in the Lords hip section of Stratford. Fire officials say the front part of the second story of the Cape Cod suffered the worst damage. All occupants escaped injury after nearly two hours of effort by headquarters company and the Loodship fire station.
Joseph Pivar nick, 57, of 498 East Washington avenue, was arrested Saturday after a store detective at Shoppers Fair on Boston avenue observed him steal two $15 radios and place them under his coat. He is in custody awaiting Circuit Court with bail set at $300.
Aberdeen fire crews responded to a grass fire Saturday near a pile of utility poles. The parked fire truck ignited with the poles and was destroyed. No injuries reported. The incident highlights dangers from nearby combustibles and equipment in response operations.
Walter Millis author and historian died at 69 after a long illness. A former New York Herald Tribune editorial writer for 30 years he edited James V. Forrestal diaries and wrote The Martial Spirit and The Road to War. He was born in Atlanta and served as a World War I artillery lieutenant. He is survived by wife Eugenia Sheppard a son Walter Millis Jr and a daughter Mrs James McCoy.
A man killed six people and wounded three others in multiple locations in western Upper Michigan before being captured. Among the dead were Mrs Vienna Gustafson and her mother Sally Johnson, and 12-year-old Robin Gustafson was critically wounded. The suspect, Pearson, a Lake Superior cabin resident, faced arraignment for murder as sheriff deputies investigated possible dating ties to a slain woman.

Tokyo AP dispatch says a U S Air Intruder was shot down north of Hanoi Sunday and its crew captured. Vietnam News Agency identified the two crewmen as U S Navy Lt Cmdr Dale Walter Doss 32 and Lt Cmdr Edwin Arthur Shuman 36. Neither hometowns nor condition were listed and Doss and Shuman service numbers were given as 591159 and 584738.
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited riot torn Calcutta amid street battles between Hindus and Muslims. Police fired on mobs as crowds sought shelter. Ten injured Sunday, with three killed and more than forty injured since Friday’s turmoil began.
Ralf Coykendall, a Weston resident and founder at Weston Field Club, dies at 75. An author of Duck Decoys and How to Big Them, he chaired the club and held memberships in the New York Advertising Sportsman's Club, Midtown Turf Club, and the Yacht and Polo Association. Survived by son Ralf Coykendall Jr. and five grandchildren.
In New Haven area crashes fatally injured three people. A youth, Menze, died in a West Haven three car collision at an intersection. A trailer truck rear ended a car driven by Mr. Jackson on Interstate 1 in North Haven. Jackson died as both vehicles caught fire. John Buckman of Brookline was critically injured. the truck driver, Chester Burger of Kearney, NJ, escaped serious injury and faced negligent homicide charges.

In WEST HARTFORD, a grocery store manager shot and killed a robber as he fled with $70 from Prospect Market. The dead gunman was identified as Charles Beckno, 36, of Philadelphia. Store manager Arcari, 32, told investigators Beckno entered at 8 p.m. and drew a gun after paying for milk, prompting Arcari to slip behind a counter and fire as the robber turned to flee. Beckno died instantly.
The Cambodian government filed a protest accusing a joint American South Vietnamese fighting unit of crossing into Cambodian soil on March 6. Six soldiers allegedly exited a helicopter 2.5 miles inside Rattanakiri Province and clashed with provincial guards, wounding one Cambodian guard.

A 68 year old New Haven woman Frances Stevens of 1523 Chapel Street was seriously burned when a match dropped on her house coat. She was taken to St Raphael s Hospital in poor condition with fire officials reporting the incident on Sunday.
