Wet snow and sleet moved through the Bridgeport area causing multiple accidents on major roads. State police reported about a dozen crashes with one injury, while conditions improved by evening and speed limits were returned to normal.

In a snowstorm a convertible carrying college students from Newtown Conn and two other youths collided head on with a refrigerator truck near Malta five miles south of Saratoga Springs. One Newtown youth Clifford Richardson 18 and Kenneth MacLennan 18 both RPI students were injured. two other youths were killed pending identification Bruce R McCarthy and Ralph Di Bari. The truck driver Angelo Mastroianne of Schenectady had minor injuries.
The city board of education voted last night to hold a special meeting next Tuesday at 7 p.m. to approve the teachers salary schedule for 1958 59. The meeting will authorize Supt Augusta Mende to sign contracts starting next fall. The board expects a formal approval to keep the current pay scale with a $3 500 starting salary.
House investigators split on whether the probe into FCC influence has gone deep enough. Rep. Bennett questioned the depth while Chairman Harris urged digging further as testimony centered on Miami TV licence battles and connections to Commissioner Mack.

Aboard the nuclear submarine Seawolf the crew searches depths off the American East coast for suspected Soviet undersea prowlers in a mission framed as war patrol. The operation began as routine training but a radio order shifted toward locating unidentified submarines beyond the three mile limit.
The Atomic Energy Commission reported two nuclear tests by Russia today at separate sites. One test occurred north of the Arctic Circle and the other at the usual Siberian testing site. Neither yielded a megaton explosion.
