Indictment Against 26 Middle Western Cement Firms

Chicago March 4 Twenty six cement firms in the Middle Western states and 48 officers are named in an indictment charging restraint of trade under the Sherman act. The firms produce about twenty million barrels annually, 34 percent of regional output and 26 percent of U S production. The defendants belong to the Middle Western Cement Credit and Statistical Bureau, named in the indictment as part of a nationwide investigation into alleged trust activities.

Labor Secretary and Miners Fear Inevitable Strike

In Washington on March 14 Secretary of Labor Davis and John Lee Lewis of the United Avion Workers discussed the looming coal industry crisis. A sweeping storm packed with tornadoes killed at least 23 people across Oklahoma Arkansas Louisiana and Mississippi with dozens injured and extensive property damage. In Gowen Oklahoma a dozen died in east Gowen and Jefferson county Arkansas and Lonoke county saw six fatalities while Sulpher Oklahoma suffered numerous deaths and injuries. Bonus plan debate stalls House actions on loan scheme

Taxicab Bandit Makes Get-Away With $6600 Roll

Stratford Fire Destroys Home. Fireman Injured

Fire at a two family dwelling on West Broad Street in Stratford damaged the upper floor and roof. Fireman Frederick Hoshach of Stratford Fire Company No. 1 was crushed when a chimney fell as he fought the blaze, injuring him with a broken collarbone and light concussion. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital. his condition was later stated as not serious. Couple Seriously Injured In Suspected Double Self-harm Pact

In Freehold, Viola Gravatt and William Feltman were wounded, authorities say, with both refusing to explain how they were hurt.
